Simona Waltert defeated Indian wild card Sahaja Yamalapalli 6–4, 3–6, 6–3 in the first round of the Chennai Open on Tuesday, November 3.
The WTA’s official match record confirms the three-set result. Waltert took the opening set before Yamalapalli won the second to send the match into a decider.
Waltert then won the final set 6–3 to advance to the second round. The defeat ended Yamalapalli’s singles campaign at the WTA 250 tournament.
Tennis.com’s completed scorecard independently lists the same result for the match on Center Court. It identifies Yamalapalli as a wild-card entrant.
