IIT Guwahati announced an agreement with the Centre for High Technology on November 2 to support doctoral research and industry collaboration in petroleum refining, petrochemicals, critical minerals and energy.

The centre, part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will work with the institute on a fellowship programme selecting up to three PhD scholars each year. No more than ten fellows will be supported at one time, according to IIT Guwahati’s announcement.

Each researcher will have an institute supervisor and a mentor from CHT or a nominated industry partner. The stated fellowship is 25 per cent above prevailing CSIR, UGC-NET or institute rates, with housing allowance, annual contingency support and research consumables. Support runs for up to four years, with a possible one-year extension.

Research areas include hydrogen, energy storage, carbon capture, corrosion and wastewater treatment. The agreement also envisages sponsored projects, training programmes and testing facilities.

This is a research-cooperation framework, not an announcement that applications are open. The institute’s release does not give a fellowship application deadline; prospective researchers should look for a separate admission or selection notice.
