Tommy Paul advanced at the Rolex Paris Masters on November 3, defeating Holger Rune 7-5, 6-4 in their first-round match. The American’s straight-sets win on Court 1 took one hour and 20 minutes, according to the tournament’s official match report.
Paul, the twelfth seed, made his serve an important part of the result. Tennis’s completed-match statistics credited him with 12 aces and one double fault, compared with seven aces and four double faults for Rune. Paul won 36 of the 45 points played behind his first serve.
The American also made better use of his opportunities on return, converting three of four break points. Rune converted one of four, while Paul held in ten of his eleven service games.
The two-set scoreline moved Paul into the next round of the indoor tournament. Paris is an ATP Masters 1000 event, with the main draw running from November 2 to 8. The confirmed result gives Paul a successful start to the final Masters tournament of the season.
