Jan-Lennard Struff defeated Arthur Gea 7–6(3), 6–3 in the first round of the Paris Masters on November 3. The German completed the match in one hour and 15 minutes to advance in the indoor hard-court tournament.

Struff’s serve kept him out of sustained trouble. The completed Tennis.com scorecard recorded 11 aces, 11 service holds and a save on the only break point he faced. He won 45 of the 53 points played behind his first serve.

Gea stayed close through the opening set, which required a tie-break. Struff took that breaker 7–3 and then secured the only service break of the match in the second set. The Frenchman hit nine aces but could not find a return breakthrough of his own.

The result ended Gea’s home-tournament singles run while giving Struff a straight-sets start. Although neither player conceded many chances on serve, the German made the more decisive use of the narrow openings, converting one of his two break points.
