Issa Doumbia scored the only goal as Sporting CP defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 1–0 at Stamford Bridge in London on November 3. The victory gave the Portuguese side nine points from four matches in the Champions League league phase, while Shakhtar remained on four.
After a goalless first half, Doumbia made the breakthrough in the 59th minute. Shakhtar’s official match record confirms the completed result, venue and scorer.
Sporting played under interim coach Tiago Fernandes, who selected three central defenders and two forwards. SPORT TV reported that Kaua Elias missed a significant first-half opportunity for Shakhtar, while Doumbia went close after the interval before eventually finding the net.
Shakhtar pressed in the closing stages, with Alisson Santana among their attacking threats, but Sporting held their lead. The result restored momentum after Sporting’s previous European fixture had ended in a 3–2 home defeat to LASK. With four league-phase matches still to play, Sporting have now won three of their opening four games.
