A foundation ceremony for the multi-modal logistics park at Sindi Railway in Maharashtra’s Wardha district was held on November 1, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said. The project is being developed near the railway station on about 150 acres.
National Highways Logistics Management Limited and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority are jointly developing the facility. Planned infrastructure includes warehouses, cold storage, exporter clusters and a customs office, with links intended to serve industries in the Nagpur and Wardha area.
The ministry said cotton, yarn, textiles, oranges and vegetables were among the products expected to benefit from improved freight connections. It also described a proposed route through Haldia for shipments to Bangladesh, avoiding a journey through Mumbai.
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the first rake carrying Maruti cars had already begun operations from the project. The wider park and its planned facilities remain under development. The ministry’s projected reductions in transport costs are expectations, rather than measured savings from a fully operational park.
