Shillong added a new showcase for Meghalaya’s indigenous textiles on November 3, when the House of Ryndia was inaugurated alongside the renovated State Central Library at the U Soso Tham Auditorium premises.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the textiles platform is intended to connect local weavers, self-help groups and entrepreneurs with wider markets. The opening brings a new place for presenting the state’s craft traditions into the same compound as its public library.

The library now includes modern reading spaces, a children’s section, archives and a Knowledge Corner for people preparing for competitive examinations. Its renovation was undertaken under the Ministry of Culture’s National Mission on Libraries.

NationPress reported the two inaugurations on Tuesday, while Sangma encouraged residents of all ages to visit. Opening hours, the House of Ryndia’s product range and sales arrangements were not specified in his announcement.
