The National Payments Corporation of India announced on November 4 that Vishal Kanvaty would lead NPCI Tech Solutions Limited, or NTSL, as managing director and chief executive.

Business Today reported NPCI’s announcement that the wholly owned subsidiary would act as the group’s technology and innovation arm. Reuters independently reported the appointment and the subsidiary’s intended focus.

NTSL’s areas include artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital financial infrastructure and services for global capability centres. The group is positioning it to build capabilities beyond NPCI’s core payments operations, rather than announcing a replacement for the Unified Payments Interface.

Kanvaty, NPCI’s chief technology officer, has worked with the organisation for nearly a decade. His new role places him in charge of developing the subsidiary’s technology capabilities.

Business Today also reported plans to support digital public infrastructure initiatives such as eKYC Setu and the Unified Ticketing Platform. The announcement sets out the organisation and its priorities; it does not provide evidence that new AI or blockchain products have entered general commercial use.
