NITI Aayog launched the India S&T Scoreboard in New Delhi on November 3, creating an interactive platform for comparing the science and technology landscape across states and Union territories.
According to NITI Aayog’s announcement, the platform combines information on higher-education and research institutions, deep-tech startups and incubators with research-publication and patent data. It also includes measures of research quality, impact, collaboration and open access, rather than relying solely on the number of outputs.
Vice Chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri unveiled the scoreboard at the Civil Services Officers’ Institute. The platform supports side-by-side state comparisons and detailed profiles intended to help governments identify research strengths and gaps.
The launch also prompted calls to broaden the assessment. Deccan Chronicle reported that Andhra Pradesh Science, Technology and Innovation Department secretary H. Purushotham urged the inclusion of indicators from the Global Innovation Index and India Innovation Index, alongside greater support for research funding.
The scoreboard is available through NITI Aayog’s dedicated website. Its research-publication interface identifies Web of Science and InCites as data sources and provides a reporting series covering financial years 2021–22 to 2024–25.
