Museum of Surrey in British Columbia is scheduled to open The Many Layers of Hair on November 3, according to a city announcement issued on November 2. The free exhibition will remain on display until April 25, 2027.
The feature-gallery show examines how hair connects with identity across different cultures and generations. Its images, stories and interactive experiences look at the ways hairstyles and grooming practices can express heritage, religious beliefs, personal choices and a sense of belonging.
The museum says the exhibition also considers discrimination linked to hair and the pressures people can face around social acceptance. Visitors are invited to reflect on how those experiences shape their understanding of themselves and others, rather than treating hair only as a matter of appearance.
The museum is at 17710 56A Avenue in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood. Admission is listed as free on the official exhibition page. Visitors should check the museum’s current opening hours before travelling; the announcement specifies exhibition dates, not daily access times.
