The First World Konkani Music Mega Convention has begun in Mangaluru, launching a singing marathon intended to continue for 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes. The programme runs from November 3 to 15 and marks cultural organisation Mandd Sobhann’s 40th anniversary.
The Goan’s opening-day report says four Goan groups performed on November 3. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant attended and said 53 teams from Goa were participating in the wider initiative.
The organisers are seeking a Guinness World Records title, rather than reporting a record already achieved. The Goa government’s programme announcement describes a continuous singing attempt beginning at 6 am on November 3.
The convention also includes seminars, recognition for established artistes, cultural exhibitions and a children’s programme. Alongside the marathon, these activities create space for different Konkani musical traditions and generations of performers. The final duration and any record certification will depend on the completed attempt and verification.
