Claire Liu defeated eighth seed Katie Boulter 7–5, 6–4 on November 4 to reach the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Tennis Open.
The American followed her previous week’s run in Guangzhou with another last-eight appearance, the WTA confirmed. Boulter had reached the Hong Kong final in 2024.
Liu’s serving helped her keep the second-round contest to two sets. She hit six aces without a double fault and landed 49 of 62 first serves, according to Tennis.com’s completed match record.
She also made efficient use of her opportunities on return, converting four of six break points. Boulter broke twice from four chances, but Liu won nine of her 11 service games to finish ahead in both sets.
The match was played on Centre Court. Liu entered the meeting ranked No. 102, with Boulter at No. 49 in the player comparison accompanying the scorecard.
