Kishtwar gained a new seismological observatory on November 2, adding a fourth monitoring station in Jammu and Kashmir. The Ministry of Earth Sciences said its digital instruments will send real-time data to the National Centre for Seismology’s round-the-clock monitoring centre in New Delhi.

The other three observatories are in Jammu, Srinagar and Udhampur. The Kishtwar station will continuously record seismic activity and contribute data for studying the region’s earthquake hazards.

Kashmir Life independently reported the inauguration and confirmed that the new facility is the fourth in the Union Territory. Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated it.

The ministry said the information is intended to support local administration, response teams and infrastructure planning. Separately, it outlined plans to commission four additional Doppler weather radars in 2027 at Doda, Kishtwar, Anantnag and Baramulla. Those planned weather installations are separate from the seismic station inaugurated this week.
