The Indian and Sri Lankan coast guards held their ninth bilateral high-level meeting in Mirissa, Sri Lanka, on November 3, with marine pollution response and institutional cooperation among the subjects discussed.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, the delegations examined maritime search and rescue, law enforcement and ways to improve coordination between the two services. Capacity building and technical assistance also formed part of the talks.
Indian Coast Guard Director General Paramesh Sivamani led the Indian delegation. Rear Admiral Ruwan Rupasena, Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, headed the Sri Lankan side. The Statesman independently reported the meeting and its main areas of discussion.
The two delegations expressed support for closer engagement on maritime challenges and marine environmental protection in their shared maritime area. The official account describes discussions and commitments to cooperation; it does not announce a newly signed treaty, a funded project or an operational deployment.
