India’s gross goods and services tax collections reached ₹2,31,290 crore in October 2026, up 22.9% from the comparable figure a year earlier, according to government data released on 1 November.

The figures provide an early view of tax revenue collected during the month. They do not, on their own, measure economic growth or describe the experience of every business.

Domestic and import revenue

Gross GST revenue from domestic transactions was ₹1,59,044 crore, an increase of 15.8% year on year. GST collected on imports rose 42.2% to ₹72,246 crore, according to the published figures.

Refunds totalled ₹27,934 crore. After refunds, net GST revenue stood at ₹2,03,356 crore, up 25.6% from the comparable figure for October 2025.

What the comparison means

Year-on-year comparisons require care: the reported comparison adjusts for the earlier compensation cess, which was phased out in February 2026. Different treatments of that cess can affect comparisons with older monthly records.

For businesses and policymakers, the split between domestic and import collections is as relevant as the headline total. Future releases will show whether the pace continues; one month’s data cannot establish a lasting trend.
