India has 325 institutions in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027, released on November 3, making it the second-largest represented higher-education system after mainland China.

IIT Delhi is India’s highest-ranked institution at 66, followed by the Indian Institute of Science at 79. IIT Bombay places 83, IIT Madras 85, IIT Kharagpur 90 and IIT Kanpur 97, according to the published results reported by NDTV.

The latest edition includes 1,722 universities across 26 systems and adds 195 institutions overall. Mainland China has 448 entries, while Japan has 153. The University of Hong Kong retains first place, ahead of Peking University and Tsinghua University.

India adds 34 institutions to the table and has 21 universities in the top 200, compared with 20 previously. QS identifies research output and doctoral-qualified staff as areas of Indian strength, even as IIT Delhi moves down from 59th in the previous edition. The results provide a regional comparison of institutions within QS’s ranking framework.
