Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket, closing his Australia career after 130 Twenty20 internationals. Cricket Australia’s news service confirmed the decision on November 3, following his announcement on The Final Word podcast.

The 38-year-old had already retired from one-day internationals in June 2025. He is also stepping away from first-class and List A cricket, but will continue playing franchise Twenty20 cricket, including for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.

Maxwell finishes with 2,897 T20I runs and five centuries, a tally he shares with India’s Rohit Sharma. Cricket Australia says he remains contracted to the Stars through the 2027–28 season.

ABC’s report, carried from AAP, records seven Test appearances and 149 ODIs alongside his T20 international career. His final Australia campaign was this year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Maxwell also played in Australia’s victorious 2021 T20 World Cup campaign, scoring the winning runs in the final. His next chapter will therefore continue at club level rather than in Australian colours.
