Second seed Alexandra Eala advanced to the Hong Kong Tennis Open second round with a 6–4, 6–3 win over Australian lucky loser Emerson Jones on Tuesday, November 3.
Eala completed the match in one hour and 23 minutes. The Filipino made a quick start in both sets but had to withstand recoveries by Jones before securing the straight-sets victory, the WTA reported.
In the opener, Eala moved 4–0 ahead before Jones narrowed the gap to 4–3. Eala held on to take the set, then built a 5–1 lead in the second. Jones recovered one break, but Eala finished the job without a deciding set.
Tennis.com’s completed match record confirms the result on Centre Court and lists Eala at No. 17 in the rankings.
She next faces Tereza Valentova, who defeated qualifier Himeno Sakatsume 6–3, 7–5 in her first-round match.
