Novak Djokovic came from a set down to beat Valentin Vacherot 6–7(5), 7–5, 6–1 in the Paris Masters first round on Tuesday, November 3. The match lasted two hours and 35 minutes.
Djokovic’s official match report says the Serbian saved three set points while serving at 5–6 in the opener before Vacherot took the tiebreak. The Monaco player then broke early in the second set, but Djokovic recovered the break to draw level at 2–2.
Djokovic made the decisive breakthrough late in the second set, breaking Vacherot in the 12th game to force a third. He then took a 3–0 lead in the decider and added another break before serving out the victory.
Tennis Majors’ courtside report corroborates the score and duration. Vacherot had arrived in Paris after winning the Basel title the previous weekend.
Djokovic will next face Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata. The result keeps him in the final Masters 1000 tournament of the season as the men’s tour approaches the ATP Finals in Turin.
