Digi Yatra has begun trials for international passengers at seven Indian airports, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced on 1 November 2026. The trial is scheduled to run through November and December and covers eligible Indian nationals with e-passports on selected international Air India and IndiGo flights.

The participating airports are Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar. The ministry says eligible passengers may use participating touchpoints at terminal entry, security hold areas and boarding gates where infrastructure is available.

To participate, an eligible traveller creates an e-passport-based credential using the Digi Yatra app, including a chip read with a compatible NFC-enabled smartphone and identity verification. The ministry says the credential is stored in the app wallet on the passenger’s device.

The trial complements existing procedures: travellers must still carry their documents and complete airline checks, immigration and other required formalities. Flight eligibility and participating touchpoints should be checked with the airline and airport before departure. Feedback is intended to inform a possible wider rollout in 2027.
