Jack Hughes scored twice and added an assist as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4–3 in a shootout in Newark on November 3. Arseny Gritsyuk supplied the deciding shootout goal, while Connor Brown also scored for New Jersey during regulation.
The result ended Edmonton’s three-game winning streak. Connor McDavid extended his NHL-record streak of assists from the start of a season to 16 games, registering his league-leading 31st assist.
Connor Hellebuyck earned the win in his first home start for the Devils. Edmonton goalkeeper Tristan Jarry made 31 saves as the visitors took the contest beyond regulation despite Hughes’ three-point contribution.
Evan Bouchard, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers. Nugent-Hopkins also reached a franchise milestone, making his 1,038th regular-season appearance to pass Kevin Lowe’s previous club record.
Both teams return to action on November 5. New Jersey hosts St. Louis, while Edmonton begins a four-game home stretch against Anaheim.
