Corning said on November 3 that its new optical-connectivity manufacturing facility in Pune had become operational, adding products for data centres and telecommunications networks to its Indian manufacturing base.

The plant is located alongside the company's existing optical-fibre facility, established in 2012. PTI reported that it is Corning's fourth manufacturing facility in India.

The distinction matters: optical fibre carries data as light, while connectivity products include the cables, connectors, closures and assemblies needed to link equipment and networks. Gadgets360's report on the announcement lists products intended for both data-centre and telecom applications.

Corning said additional capacity was expected to come online in 2027. That expansion remains a future plan, separate from the facility now reported to be operating.

The project follows a groundbreaking announced in February. November's update concerns the move into operations, rather than a newly proposed factory. The reports do not provide a production-volume figure for the new Pune facility or a new investment total.
