Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and IIT Kanpur have agreed a five-year partnership covering joint research, student exchanges and shared use of specialised facilities, according to reports published on November 3.

The agreement was signed by BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Indranil Manna and IIT Kanpur Director Manindra Agrawal. PTI's account says the framework spans undergraduate and postgraduate research, internships, joint supervision of Master's and PhD scholars, academic programmes and staff training.

Faculty from both institutions can guide undergraduate projects from the third year and postgraduate projects from the first semester. Summer and winter internships, short courses and workshops are among the exchange activities envisaged.

The arrangement also provides for faculty development and collaborative proposals to research-funding agencies. Careers360 reported that funding, academic credits, residency and intellectual-property arrangements would follow mutually agreed guidelines.

For students, the agreement creates a framework for opportunities rather than an automatic placement or admission offer. Participation in laboratory visits, exchanges and individual research projects remains subject to the terms of each activity.
