Thirty-five executive engineers from Assam’s Panchayat and Rural Development Department completed a two-day programme on construction standards in Guwahati on November 3.

The Bureau of Indian Standards’ Guwahati branch organised the training with the Golap Borbora State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development at Kahikuchi. A government release issued on November 4 says engineers from several districts attended eight technical sessions.

The sessions covered construction-material quality, the use of Indian Standards, procurement of BIS-certified products and approaches to disaster-resilient building. Assam Engineering College faculty members Rajdeep Paul and Ankita Roy Karmakar delivered technical lectures.

The programme focused on applying these checks to government infrastructure, particularly rural-development works. It was a professional training exercise rather than an announcement of a new building code or a separate construction project.
