Indian respondents were more likely than the wider Asian sample to say they were likely to visit a lesser-known destination in 2027, according to Agoda’s 2027 Asia Travel Pulse report released on November 4.
The accommodation-booking company’s report puts that share at 55% for India, compared with 36% across the markets surveyed. These respondents rated their likelihood at seven or more on a ten-point scale. The finding points to interest in places beyond established visitor hotspots, rather than confirming that those trips have been booked.
Outdoor adventures also featured prominently: 42% of Indian respondents named them among their leading reasons to travel in 2027, against 28% across Asia. Spiritual or religious travel was selected by 14% in India, compared with 4% in the wider sample.
The research surveyed 3,395 people across 11 Asian markets during September and October 2026. Alongside India, those markets included Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong SAR.
The published methodology does not specify the size of the Indian subsample or a margin of error. These results should therefore be read as the stated intentions of surveyed travellers, not a forecast for every Indian holidaymaker or evidence of completed bookings. Business Standard’s November 4 report also covered the India findings.
